The numerous  parallels between Nazi Germany and Trump’s America are frightening.  The assault on the press, the cult-like behavior of Trump supporters, the propaganda machine that includes state owned (Fox) news, use of the military to control citizens, state support of para-military vigilante groups, anti-communist fear mongering, and so on.  Even Trump’s narcissistic personality disorder invites comparisons to Hitler’s megalomania.  And now Trump’s ICE is engaging in the forced sterilization of brown and black women detained for deportation.  This is part of Trump’s program of racial purity. Witness his support for white supremacist groups, incitement of racial violence, refusal to condemn police brutality, disenfranchisement of Black voters, draconian immigration policies and bungling of the CoVID-19 epidemic that kills POC at a rate 5 times greater than whites.  But nothing tells us that we are on the cusp of a Nazi state as the forced sterilization of “undesirables”.

 

 

Whistleblowers Are The Real Patriots

 At this point we are running out of adjectives piling hyperboles to describe the danger the Trump administration poses to our security as a nation.  I won’t sign another useless petition calling for answers or demanding action from people who regularly wipe their armpits with our constitution to ignore.  I will however gladly give to a Gofundme to support  whistleblowers for the rule of law.  These courageous men and women are true patriots.  And this story about another DHS whistleblower shows why.

Steve Bannon was arrested Thursday, August 20 in Connecticut by U.S. postal inspectors. He was indicted by the US Attorney General for New York and arrested for money laundering and wire fraud.  Read the 24- page indictment is here, This is a you-can’t make this up story for so many reasons that I don’t know where to begin.  Ironic twists, humor, karma, rinse-and-repeat scandal.

Who is Stephen K. Bannon?  Besides a fat guy with disheveled hair in a wrinkled suit?  Working backwards, he was Trump’s Chief Strategist for two years, and before that the architect of Trump’s 2016 campaign strategy.   I wouldn’t say it was wholly successful because in the end Trump had to cheat to “win”.  But it was savy and somewhat successful because it got Trump within cheating distance of the White House.  

Bannon’s resume is impressive in its diversity.  Before joining Trump’s campaign he’d been a Navy officer, a Hollywood Producer (18 films), an investment banker and he co-founded Breitbart News, a major alt-right platform.  Some describe him as an anarchist but he is a garden-variety white supremacists who will burn it all down than share power with non-whites.  He is a clear-eyed cynic.  He knew Trump was ill-equipped for the Office, didn’t believe the kooky conspiracy theories rampant on Breitbart but encouraged them to grow membership, and knew when and how to sacrifice a lesser piece on the board.  He thrived in the White House until he didn’t. Trump fired him on August 17, 2017 although anonymous sources said Kushner wanted him gone.  That same day, Bannon went back to Breitbart. In January 2018, Breitbart fired him, probably at Trump’s urging.

White House Silent on Khashoggi’s Murder by Saudi’s

This is not the deepest stain on our character as a nation.  Nor is it the greatest blow to our moral authority on the world stage. After all, as of August 30, 2020 Trump remains silent on reports that Putin paid the Taliban bounties for dead American and coalition soldiers in Afghanistan.   But what it is is instructive.  It is not just an indication of how far we’ve fallen as a nation under Trump.  It is a sign post on the road to fascism and a blue print for things to come if Trump is re-elected.  The story of Khashoggi’s murder and our (lackluster) response to it unfolded over several months.  To paint a clear picture of how sordid a chapter this is in America’s history I collected all my comments and thoughts on the killing of a resident journalist by the Saudi regime here.

EPA Head Violates Hatch Act Barring Gifts

Pruitt, as fanatical a climate-change denier as you want to meet was Trump’s appointee for Director of the Environmental Protection Agency.  He served from Feb 2017 until July 2016.  His tenure was distinguished by the fact that there were at least 14 different federal investigations for corruption, conflicts of interest and ethics.    Leasing a condo in D.C. for less than $50 a night from a lobbyists whose clients were regulated by EPA.
