Countdown to 2022

A Blue Wave is Coming!

Eugenics 2020: Mass Hysterectomies at ICE Facility

The numerous  parallels between Nazi Germany and Trump’s America are frightening.  The assault on the press, the cult-like behavior of Trump supporters, the propaganda machine that includes state owned (Fox) news, use of the military to control citizens, state support of para-military vigilante groups, anti-communist fear mongering, and so on.  Even Trump’s narcissistic personality disorder invites comparisons to Hitler’s megalomania.  And now Trump’s ICE is engaging in the forced sterilization of brown and black women detained for deportation.  This is part of Trump’s program of racial purity. Witness his support for white supremacist groups, incitement of racial violence, refusal to condemn police brutality, disenfranchisement of Black voters, draconian immigration policies and bungling of the CoVID-19 epidemic that kills POC at a rate 5 times greater than whites.  But nothing tells us that we are on the cusp of a Nazi state as the forced sterilization of “undesirables”.

Melania’s RNC Speech. Temper, Temper.

The Democratic Nominating Committee from August 17-20, 2020 presented one of the most diverse, racially and ideologically, line up of speakers ever seen at a nominating convention.  Many of the speeches resonated with fearful and disappointed voters.  Many inspired me to do more to put Biden in the White House.  President Obama, Michele Obama, Joe Biden, John Kasich, Bernie Sanders, Kristin Urquiza, whose father died from COVID-19 to start.  Before the convention I’d said many times that I did not care who was running as the democratic nominee or his VP,  I was voting straight Blue regardless.  After the convention, my vote on November 3 became more than a vote against Trump-Pence.  It became a vote for Biden-Harris.

Next up was up was the Republican National Convention, August 24-27,2020.   The line up of RNC speakers should be looked at not just in turns of who is speaking but who is not speaking. Only one Republican facing a difficult re-election fight, no seasoned politicians but everybody but the children in Trump’s family.   At a convention already rife with Hatch Act violations, alt-right conspi-RACISTS and revisionism, Melania Trump took the stage.

Her speech was hyped to high heaven as the most important speech of her life so expectations were running high.  And then she spoke  (read the full text of her speech here and analysis here and here) and high expectations gave way to appeals to temper our expectations and a slew of main stream media tempered reviews.

In typical Trump fashion, she pointed down and told us it was up.  She could not even manufacture a creditable record of public service since becoming FLOTUS and no one anywhere has conjured before the inauguration.  But this isn’t the subject of my post.  My purpose here is to call out the reception her speech received from some people and some media (Trump supporters and Fox aside).

Where Are the People of Color in Group Photo of White House Interns?

The lack of people of (obvious) color in this photo were an omen of things to come.  About this time secret white power hand gestures and neo-nazi pins in White House photos were being explained away as coincidences. You know, “Move along, these are not the droids you’re looking for”.  I wonder if Kelly and McMasters regret serving Trump?

I do not know anything about the qualifications of these interns and so I assume they are well qualified. However, I believe there are equally qualified people of color who would have gladly accepted a WH internship. After all, “serving the office

Oh The Lies They Tell For Trump: Sh*thouse or Sh*thole Countries?

When Trump first indicated that he would ban immigrants from certain countries he expressed a preference for Norwegian (read Aryan) immigrants and a desire to ban immigrants from what he called “shithole countries” meaning African and other predominantly black or brown countries.  At least two Republican Senators overheard Trump’s remarks that were later leaked to the press.  Initially, both Senators Cotton and Perdue, of Arkansas and Georgia respectively denied on air having overheard the remarks (more accurately, they couldn’t recall hearing the remarks).  Later when pressed the Senators recalled that Trump did make an unflattering reference to third world countries in Africa and elsewhere but that they heard “shithouse” not “shithole”.  Now I for one do not understand the distinction between a shithole country and a shithouse country but apparently there was enough nuance for the Senators to avoid characterizing Trump’s remarks as racist.   Looking back I see that this post is the first of many posts that started me to thinking about how main stream media (MSM) felled us when we needed it most./span>

What I find most remarkable about this sad chapter in Trump’s presidency is that his racism is considered “news” and not settled fact. For more than a year the media and Trump supporters have looked high and low for other ‘isms’ to explain his remarks to avoid the obvious one: racism. It started way back when with “nativism” then “nationalism”, then “populism” and, the latest, “authenticism”. His supporters know what he is and support him for it. Their defense is simply a strategy of misdirection and obfuscation. Others, but by no means enough, know what he is an oppose him for it. Only the media is confused. Giving him and his enablers the benefit of the doubt time after time. Refusing to ask obvious follow up questions that get to the heart of the matter. This latest outrage will fade in a few weeks and then replaced altogether by new remarks that provide fresh evidence that Trump is a racist. An unending cycle that will not end until he is out of office.

And the price Trump paid for Senators Cotton’s and Perdue’s failure to recall?  Tanking the DACA deal. And yet some still think that the Russians are not blackmailing Trump even though he so easily created a situation that put him in a position to be blackmailed by two Senators of his own party. More evidence of his stable genius I guess.
