OSHA Fines Meat Plants $29,000 For Violating CoVID Safety Measures

OSHA fined two meat packing companies $29,000 total for three violations of CoVID-19 safety measures as reported here and here. There are more than 494 meat packing plants in the US. Only 2 were fined. OSHA has received more than 10,000 CoVID related complaints from workers, unions and whistle blowers across industries in 6 months but has found only three violations. 203 meat plant workers have died since March. Last year’s combined revenue for the two companies OSHA fined exceeded $65 billion dollars.

This is both shameful and ridiculous. A $29,000 fine for 203 dead Americans deemed essential workers because you and I must have a hamburger instead of a PPJ sandwich for lunch while we work from home. 203 essential workers for whom essential measures were not taken to provide a safe work environment.

If ever we needed an example of how little regard America has for the lives and well being of its most vulnerable citizens, here it is.

We are witnessing in real time the weaponization of the entire Federal bureaucracy to keep Trump in power. The intelligence community, the postal service, the CDC, Justice, the military, NOAA, DHS, DOE, EPA, FDA, the Federal Reserve, now OSHA an so on down to the smallest agency. There is no end to it. In only 3 1/2 years Trump has exploited with great success the hypocrisy, greed, fanaticism, pseudo-religiousness and hate in many bosoms. How else do you explain the rapidity with which so many have abandoned every tenet of the democracy they professed to cherish and took an oath to serve? Far from Making America Great Again Trump has shown us and the world that America was Not So Great After All. We are now just one more country ruled by a corrupt despot propped up by the state apparatus.

Trump Lied about CoVID and Brags About Saving The Saudi Crown Prince From The U.S.

Journalist Bob Woodward, of Watergate fame, conducted more than 18 hours of interviews with Donald Trump, 16 hours of which were taped. Yesterday he released a tape recorded in February in which Trump talks about how deadly CoVID-19 is. He admits on tape that he intentionally downplayed the danger of the virus with the American people. Tens of thousands of Americans died because Trump chose to deceive us about how contagious and how deadly CoVID was although he had been told so by the intelligence community and the Chinese. He also admits on tape that the virus was dangerous to children not just to old people. This is the complete opposite of what he has been telling parents, teachers and state and local governments to pressure them to reopen schools. The tapes and the interviews are the basis for Rage, a new book by Woodward to be released next week.

But before I could blog about the CoVID reveal, Woodward drops another mic from from his book. Trump brags to Woodward that he saved Mohammed bin Salman (MBS), the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, from suffering the consequences of kidnapping and dismembering a Washington Post journalist and outspoken critic of the Saudi regime living in the U.S (more here). These reveals, as numerous as Scheherazade’s tales, do not move Trump’s white supremacists base. They do not faze Republican congressmen except for Mitt Romney. They do not influence people serving in the White House to suddenly find their patriotism and become part of the resistance. They won’t change a single vote of those still wearing a red hat at this point. And sadly, they won’t move anyone still “undecided” after 3 1/2 years of Trump’s kleptocracy, 180,000 dead, storm troopers in the street, corruption, civil strife, Russian bounties on our soldiers and three hundred more scandals and outrages. No, the significance of these tell-all books and articles is in their shock value. Every time you think that Trump cannot outrage us further, that Trump cannot go any lower, that Trump cannot do anything more despicable, he does. And here you have proof.

Trump is an extinction-level event, a comet of chaos and divisiveness, rapidly bearing down on us. Like an ELE there’s nothing on the other side of the election for us if we don’t eliminate the threat his presidency poses to the survival of our democracy. Anything we say, anything we do that is not in service of that is disingenuous, or wholly complicit.

178,000 Americans Dead

178,000 Americans have died from CoVID-19. Two weeks ago that number was 169,000. We are averaging 1,000 DEATHS a day. At this rate, 69,000 more Americans will have died by November 3, 2020. 5.2M Americans have tested positive for CoVID. In raw numbers, America leads the world in deaths due to CoVID. We are 9th in the number of CoVID deaths per capita. That may seem like a cause for celebration until you remember that there are 193 countries in the world. 184 countries have fewer CoVID deaths per capita than America.

In his 70-minute closing speech at the RNC Thursday, Trump downplayed the virus and conjured up successes in fighting the virus that do not exist. He trashed the plan he inherited including a blue print for building a machine that would have manufactured 1.5 million N-95 masks a day. He did not have a replacement for the plan he simply did not want to use the plan he inherited because it was Obama’s plan. He undercut the government experts and worked actively to thwart their efforts to control the pandemic. In short, he has done everything one could do in his position to hamper government’s response to the pandemic. Partly out of spite and partly to make CoVID and 178,000 dead Americans a non-issue in the campaign. So, in regard to the latter, as bad as the numbers are, they are not the true numbers.
