Pruitt, as fanatical a climate-change denier as you want to meet was Trump’s appointee for Director of the Environmental Protection Agency.  He served from Feb 2017 until July 2016.  His tenure was distinguished by the fact that there were at least 14 different federal investigations for corruption, conflicts of interest and ethics.    Leasing a condo in D.C. for less than $50 a night from a lobbyists whose clients were regulated by EPA.

Executive branch employees are subject to restrictions on the gifts that they may solicit or accept from sources outside the Government. ….executive branch employees may not solicit or accept gifts that are given because of their official positions or that come from certain interested sources (“prohibited sources”). Definition of “Prohibited Source” A “prohibited source” is a person (or an organization made up of such persons) who: • is seeking official action by, is doing business or seeking to do business with, or is regulated by the employee’s agency; or • has interests that may be substantially affected by performance or nonperformance of the employee’s official duties. Definition of “Gift” A “gift” is defined to mean anything of monetary value and specifically includes “…, lodgings, …whether reimbursement after the expense has been incurred.” Exceptions to Gift Rule There are a few exceptions to the prohibition on gifts from outside sources. Not only must government employees including political appointees avoid a conflict of interest situation, they must avoid even the appearance of a conflict of interest. Far from draining the swamp, Trump is flooding it.
