Countdown to 2022

A Blue Wave is Coming!

No Accountability

The Spanish government called for 10 days of mourning for their coronavirus dead in May.The King of Spain led a memorial service for CoVID-19 victims yesterday. What has Trump done? No remorse, no empathy, no responsibility. This is President Trump.

Acknowledging the victims of COVID-19 would be to associate himself with their weakness…Perhaps most crucially, for Donald there is no value in empathy, no tangible upside to caring for other people.

-Mary L. Trump, Too Much and Never Enough,

The press has covered Trump’s lack of empathy for the thousands Americans who have died of CoVID unnecessarily.  For more see here and here.  Mental health professionals including Trump’s own niece

The Rise of Racism

The flag of traitors

Talking about race is uncomfortable for whites.  It is painful for Blacks.  There is a world of difference between discomfort and pain.  Up until the heinous murder of George Floyd by ##### which was captured for the world to see in a viral video no one could have imagined that discussion about race would be a national dialogue.

Let me stop right here and say that I have not watched the video only clips.  I lack the strength to do so.  I have two sons and two grandsons, nephews and cousins, all of whom are young/very young Black men.  Anyone of which could have been and may yet be murdered like George Floyd.  I feel that I should have watched it and I am ashamed that I lacked the courage to watch It.  If George Floyd lived, and died in, those 8 minutes, I should be able to bear witness to his life and death in those 8 minutes.

Yes, Trump Will Declare A National Emergence

You still wondering if Trump will declare a national emergency to  delay the election or, barring that, to declare himself ruler for life.  OF COURSE HE WILL!

Trump has only one move left on the board and it is an obvious one.  He has to declare a national emergency even if the declaration is tied up in the courts for years.  Even if it is overturned.  Barring this, he and his coterie will have to leave the White House in the dead of night to seek asylum in Russia or Saudi Arabia or Turkey or the Ecuadorian embassy in London.

Trump Extorts a Foreign Government For Dirt on Biden

Trump asked the Ukraine to interfere in our elections by digging up dirt on the likely democratic nominee, Joe Biden, in exchange for military aid.  Let this sink in.  Trump used his office and the threat of withholding aid to be reelected.  Do a deep dive or a quick read to find out more.  The White House denied the charge and released a summary of the conversation between him and the head of the Ukraine government.

This is what you get when the full resources and assets of our nation is weaponized in service of a corrupt, fascist regime that will do anything to stay in power and evade punishment. As damaging as this is it: a) is only a summary not the verbatim transcript; and b) has certainly been doctored to hide the most damaging portions of the conversation. In other words this is the least damaging version of the call Trump could come up with that acknowledges that which could not be denied or contained. It is not happenstance that they released a “summary” of a transcript and not the tape

The reality of a post-Trump America: A Woman Can’t Win.

You would think that the most qualified person regardless of gender or race would be a party’s nominee for President.  That’s not true and has never been true but for different reasons and to different degrees now than in the early history of the two major parties.

Gender and race were not an issue before 1865 and 1920 when Blacks and then women respectively gained the right to vote.  Before then only white men were eligible to vote.  And since neither slaves nor women could vote, no slave or woman was eligible for office. Even after women were granted the right to vote, social norms dictated that their vote would not be exercised independent of the male head of the household.  And Jim Crow laws saw to the continued disenfranchisement of Blacks who were technically eligible for office and to vote but who practically speaking were not allowed to do so.
