Trump’s State Of Mind Is Cause For Alarm

This WaPo opinion  piece about Trump’s state of mind in threatening to fire Robert Mueller, the special counsel investigating if Trump colluded with Russia during the 2016 campaign, prompted my own speculations.  Since then there’s been an avalanche of tell-all books and articles by former administration officials like John Bolton, family, psychiatrists, fixers, senior government executives, fired government executives like James Comey, and even the ghost writer for The Art of The Deal that say what we’d only begun to grasp back then:  Donald Trump is unwell and dangerously unfit for the office he holds.

If Trump is guilty of impeachable offenses and criminal acts, and I believe he is, firing Mueller makes perfect sense. He cannot allow Mueller’s investigation to continue to its logical conclusion. The odds are better than even that Republicans will do no more than sharply rebuke his actions while coaxing into the midterms with a fervent prayer that they retain their majority. Some short-lived civil unrest and then back to business as usual. A small price to pay considering the alternative for him. If he underestimates the strength of the GOP backlash, he is still better off firing Mueller than he would have been if Mueller is allowed to conclude his investigation. I believe Trump to be guilty of treasonous acts (conspiring with a foreign power to harm our nation) and criminal acts (money laundering and pay-to-play foreign policy). With charges like these looming at the end of the investigation what recourse does he have but to fire Mueller?
